Breaking News
It was a crazy day on Friday . . . a teenager was shot while walking down the street. I got the assignment to go LIVE from the scene. Here are a couple of photos from yesterday.

Josh and a snake
It seems like snakes are attracted to me. Today I did my second stand up with a snake. This one is at a petting zoo at the Jefferson County Fair in Jefferson City, TN. I got a little scared when it started to constrict around my neck.

Josh goes UNDERGROUND
I got to spend the day in the Tuckaleechee Caverns in Townsend, TN today. They are my favorite caverns in East Tennessee. The water down there is 96% pure, and they let you drink it. There is also an amazing waterfall. We are doing a hour special about the local caverns. The only downside to the experience is I hit my head on a rock, and I started to bleed. I think I will survive.

I love to FLY!
I love to fly. Today for work I got to fly with the guy at Scenic Helicopter Tours in Sevierville, TN. We are doing a story on the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, so I got to do the story about the view from the air. It was amazing today, the pilot barely went over the mountain top . . . the view was amazing!

Hazel White
On Saturday, my good friend Hazel White was buried in Jefferson City, TN. She died from a heart attack a few days earlier. Sister White used to ride with me to church almost every Sunday, and I was her home teacher (a calling in the church where we visit families each month). Just a few weeks ago, she gave me a salt and pepper set for my new apartment. It has a huge flower and hummingbird. It is something I will always cherish. I had never met Sister White's children, she has a daughter and two sons, but since she talked so much about me, they asked me to be a pallbearer at the funeral. It really meant a lot to take part in the service. I will miss you Sister White and can't wait to see you again!

Josh goes back to Florence 2 1/2 years later
I can't believe how much time has gone by (and so quickly). I finally felt it was time to head back to Florence, AL, where I lived before I came to Knoxville. On Sunday, I got to go to church at the Florence Ward (plus a visit to Florence Baptist Church). I got to have lunch with Alison and Beth from the tourism office, and spend the night with the Hurren Family. On Monday, I got to have breakfast with Debbie, and take some of the Hurren kids to see the rock wall, the lions at UNA, and have a spit contest on the old railroad bridge in Sheffield, AL.

Josh jumps out of a plane!!
I finally did it(and survived!). This morning I skydived!! We are doing a special program on extreme sports, so I volunteered to skydive. The wonderful people at Skydive East Tennessee did a great job in helping Linda (a WATE producer) and myself get ready for the jump. The only part that is really scarey is when you are pushed out of the plane, but as you glide back to the ground it is very peaceful. It was a great experience!

Josh's Family History
Today I have been doing a lot of family history. Next Saturday I am doing a story about the Ault family in Knoxville. I spent three house at the East Tennessee History Center in downtown Knoxville. The people there helped me learn a lot about the Ault's in Knoxville. I really wanted to find where Michael Ault's plantation was . . . so one piece of information we found was that Jamie Ault Grady's home was built on the property. Grady had lived in that house up to 1949, so I went out and found it (the blue and yellow house). I also went to Macedonia United Methodist Church (where all the Ault's are buried) and ran into a church member. He gave me a tour of the church, and gave me a little history. Right by the Ault plot is the original horse stake, where people tied up their horses. It has been a fun day! The story will air next Saturday on 6 Around Town on WATE 6!

New Member Dinner
I have been the Ward Mission Leader in my ward (congregation) for nearly a year now. It has been fun to work with the missionaries, and help the new members of our church settle in. To welcome all the recent converts we but on a New Member Dinner at the Lohman's home. Only one of our new members (Sister Poore) showed up, but we had a lot of fun. We were able to take left overs to everyone else. The missionaries (Elder Kenyon, Elder Mills, Elder Nuebert, and Elder Robinson) did all the cooking.

Spin Class
I have been doing spin classes at the gym for 6 years now. It is one of my favorite cardiovascular exercises to do. In a week, we will be doing a special fitness report on WATE-TV. I am doing a segment on spin class, and dragged our morning anchor Tearsa Smith to do it with me. It was her first time to go. She quit half way through, but it's going to be an awesome story. It will air on February 18 at 7 p.m. on 6 Around Town.

Josh's New Apartment
I haven't posted anything in a loooong time, so I thought I would do a little update on my life.
I signed a new 2-year contract at WATE-TV, so it looks like I will be in Tennessee for a few more years. I really love my job, and Knoxville is a great place to live. I think I will enjoy being here for a little while longer. This will be my first time to stay in one for longer than two years in quite awhile.
I am also getting a new place to live. An apartment opened up in my current building, and my landlord gave me first dibs on it. It is three times larger than where I am now. I will finally have a washer and dryer hook-up, which will be super nice. I really like my neighborhood, and it's super nice being only one minute from work. I finally will have room to invite people over. A studio apartment is small.
Besides work, church keeps me busy. Last night, I organized a missionary blitz. We have four missionaries in our ward, so I got three more members to come out, so we could canvass a larger area. Along with being the ward mission leader, I teach Sunday School every Sunday. We have had six baptism since I have been in this calling, and one more planned for tomorrow night.
On another church note . . . I have asked to be part of a panel at the First Baptist Church Knoxville to talk about Mormons. My bishop and another member, who is part of public affairs, will join me. I am friends with the senior pastor at the church, and he asked me to come to talk about my faith. There will also be a professor of world religion, and a church historian there. It should be interesting. It is being held on February 15th.
Another thing I am really excited for is everyone coming over for Kelsey's graduation. I have the whole week off from work. I can't wait to show everyone around East Tennessee.
I hope everyone is doing well . . . call me if you ever need anything!

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
I am sorry I haven't updated my blog in a long time, but I have been keeping up with another blog for work: http://extremenights.tumblr.com/
It is almost 4 a.m. on Saturday morning. I am in the middle of my fourth overnight shift. I still have three more to go. I have been doing stories about the work being done at the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build here in Knoxville.
The weather has been freezing . . . it snowed yesterday. This morning I thought my fingers were going to fall off.
The new home is for the Watson family. They started the Restoration House five years ago for single moms. It helps them get back on their feet.
Here is a couple of photos from the build. So far I have managed to stay awake!
