I am a teacher!

After 10 years as a TV reporter . . . I have now made the switch to be a public school teacher. I quit my job at NBC 5 in Dallas in July and started teaching for Dallas ISD in August of 2015. The hours are much better, and the two week Christmas vacation was amazing. Teaching has been one of the most challenging things I have done. I am excited to see what the future has in store. I am a 7th grade social studies teacher. More to come . . . .

One Year Back in Texas

Can you believe this year is gone? It was a year on Christmas Day that I packed all my belongings and left Knoxville, TN. 2014 has just flown by . . . I really do not know where it went. It has been a year since I have been waking up at 2:45 a.m. I think my body has adjusted some, but it is still a hard schedule to keep up with. My job is going . . . lots of car accidents, fires, and murders. I have know learned my way around DFW (without using my phone). It has been really nice being close to Ally and her family . . . also with mom and dad, Abby and Megan being just a few hours away. I have even gone to Corpus Christi to see Amber three times this year, which is quite a lot. It's been a full year . . . I am hoping 2015 will be even better. I will be moving to downtown Dallas on January 17, so that will be a change. I look forward to the new adventure!

Life as an NBC 5 reporter

I can not believe it has been 7 months since I started at NBC 5 in Dallas/Fort Worth. It has been adventure . . . including waking up at 2:45 AM each morning. I have been able to cover some amazing stories. It has been an adjustment moving to a large city, but it is fantastic all the things you can experience here. It has been really nice being so close to family. My sister lives in Frisco and my parents are just a few hours south in Nacogdoches. It will be interesting to see what comes next!

Hiking Mt. LeConte

I recently accomplished something I have wanted to do for a very long time. I hiked Mt. LeConte. It is the third highest peak in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The hike is more than 10 miles, so by the end of it your feet hurt, but it is so worth it. The weather was perfect . . . nice and cool. The scenery was breath taking. I highly recommend going.

DFW UPDATE

I have been in Dallas-Fort Worth for a month and a half now. It has been a hard transition . . . change is never easy. I like to stay on the positive side of things, so I thought I would let you know they great things about returning to Texas. I am back in Whataburger territory . . . I have eaten way too many Whataburgers. It has been great being closer to my sister, Ally, and her family. We have been able to do some exciting things like go to the Fort Worth Zoo and see a Dallas Stars hockey game. The weather is a lot better in Texas (despite some colder temperatures the past few weeks). This week it is going to be in the 70s. My job is going . . . it's amazing all the cool gadgets you get in a bigger market. I get to drive an awesome hummer called Fast Five(photo attached). I love all the things you can do in DFW. I recently visited where JFK was assassinated and the Dallas Holocaust Museum. I am hoping I will like Dallas as much as I liked Knoxville. I will keep you posted.

Josh's Important People

In the past few months I have been able to interview some amazing people. During a recent trip to Pigeon Forge, TN I got to talk with former presidential canadiate Mike Huckabee. Also in Pigeon Forge, I got to interview Iraq POW Jessica Lynch. Her story of survival was pretty amazing.
