Josh covering the Christie Scott Capital Murder Trial

It has been a long week! Closing arguments started Monday in the Christie Scott Murder Trial. Scott is accused of killing her 6-year-old son, Mason, in a house fire in 2008. The jury deliberated part of Monday, all day Tuesday, and then finally ended Wednesday. GUILTY on all three charges - murder for monetary gain (she got a life insurance policy on her son the day before the fire), murder by arson, and murder of a child under the age of 14. Then the sentencing phase of the trial started Thursday. Everyone thought it would end by lunch, but no one knew the defense would call 29 witnesses - a teacher, a pastor, a day care director, plus all of her family. It was very emotional. It was really sad when Scott's mom took the stand, she just broke down. All of them were pleading for the jury not to choose the death penalty. The jury started the sentencing deliberation Thursday evening, they couldn't decided, so they were sent home. On Friday morning they finally came back. They decided to recommend life in prison with no chance of parole. The judge will make the final decision on August 5th. He could still choose death by lethal injection. I was at the courthouse all week. The above photos were when I did live shots Thursday morning at 6 AM. I am so glad it's the weekend!
